Stepping Stonez: Therapy Program

STEPPING STONEZ is our new initiative for children/adults with special needs.

We provide therapy based activities in Arts & Craft, Music, Games, Quiz, Karaoke afternoons, Candle & Bottle designing, LEGO Robotics & Coding.

Introducing Better Thinking & Learning:  LEGO -based Therapy Program

LEGO®-Based Therapy is an evidence-informed, play-based, social communication program, developed by Daniel LeGoff in the early 2000’s. It is a gentle way of helping develop social communication skills whilst still being true to the individual’s personal needs . Playing with LEGO in a therapy setting promotes social interaction, turn-taking skills, sharing, collaborative problem-solving and the learning of concepts.

LEGO-Based Therapy provides a highly structured environment where everyone plays a specific role within the group.

What happens during a LEGO-Based Therapy session?

During a LEGO-Based Therapy session, three or four children of similar ages and abilities work together to build a LEGO model following.

Each child takes on one of four specific roles to do this:

  • The Engineer oversees reading and relaying the instructions. The Engineer must tell the Supplier what pieces to retrieve and tell the Builder how to build the model.
  • The Supplier oversees finding the correct LEGO pieces. The Supplier must listen to the Engineer and figure out what piece to retrieve, and then given these pieces to the Builder.
  • The Builder oversees physically building the model. The Builder must listen to instructions provided by the Engineer and receive the pieces that are retrieved by the Supplier.
  • The Foreman makes sure everyone is doing what they need to do. They provide help to other roles when needed and look out for social challenges that may need problem-solving by the group.

Using this above format provides each child with following benefits:

  • Reduce problem behaviors
  • Improves critical thinking
  • Improve social communication
  • Builds and helps to maintain friendships
  • Improving social interactions
  • Improving social competence
  • Improved teamwork
  • Increases sense of belonging

SYPHER SPACE adds another dimension to traditional LEGO -Based Therapy by introducing your child to CODING skills thus changing the conventional build to a Robotic model.

CODING adds computational thinking, helps understand the modern technologies thus helps further strengthening your child’s skills and have them ready for the future.

Course Structure: School Term

  • 6  Sessions in a term – weekly or fortnightly sessions
  • 4-6 students per session
  • 60-90 minutes per session

Special Holiday Programs:

  • 3-4 hour session in a day at a community centre/school
  • 12 students each session
  • Themed sessions – LEGO , Arts & Crafts, Music, Games & Prizes

Who can attend and where?

Lego® based therapy is for children aged 5 and above with social communication difficulties including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), language difficulties, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties.

We run our programs in small setting at our centre in Bella Vista, NSW, at a community centre or we can come to your home to deliver our sessions.

Our sessions can be run in a home based setting and we prefer 2 or more students to make the program more effective.

Program Cost:

Cost of the program depends on the program – School Term or Holiday programs. The costs are published for each program separately.

The program cost may be paid via NDIS funding. Please contact your support coordinators or plans managers for approval. For self managed plans, please contact us to discuss the course duration and cost.

You could also talk about it with your NDIA plannerearly childhood partner or local area coordinator, if you have one.

Parent support and involvement

Your involvement is usually just taking your child to a weekly/fortnightly Lego therapy group. Sometimes parents are encouraged to do sessions at home with their child.
